We have been waiting a long time but it looks like the drying for freedom movie is not far off from being released.

These are the guys that have travelled the world looking at the clothes line or washing line and how it is used.

On the Drying for Freedom website they talk about the previem night back in May so I would think we should get an update shortly on when we as the general public might be able to see it and where.

In our modern world with all our fancy gadets and phones and the need to go more eco friendly, there are still rules and bans in place that I just dont get!

The clothesline or washing line is one of the most eco friendly devices that you can ever get, harnessing the suns rays to “dry the solar way”. This system costs nothing to run other than the initial cost to buy a line or a length of rope, yet it is banned in so many areas and country’s around the world.

Im based in Australia so I have grown up with drying clothes on the clothesline as just a way of everyday life, yet in the US and Canada it is against all the rules to dry your clothes outdoors for free!

What were these law makers thinking back in the last century? My home and all the others around it are worth 700K and everyone drys washing, so I dont get the argument that house prices will fall.

When will these developed countries stand up and remove these stupid bans that are costing home owners plenty with all the power and gas needed to dry laundry? I applaude the fighters in the US trying to make a difference and lets all get behind them and make the law makers listen and remove these laws.

I also found a great post on clotheslines and here is the link to see the many different styles around.

Every day, millions of dollars are spent trying to convince you that climate change isn’t real. Or that humans don’t cause it. Or that the biggest polluters are trying to solve the problem.

But climate change is a reality. And big polluters — drawing from the playbook used by the big tobacco companies years ago — are trying to fool citizens and consumers around the globe by denying proven science. So how can we get the world to embrace reality? How can we share the truth about the climate crisis?

Meet The Climate Reality Project. On September 14, in a 24-hour event spanning the globe, we’re introducing a brand-new organization with one clear goal: to bring the facts about the climate crisis into the mainstream by engaging everyone — especially leaders like you — in a conversation about how to solve it.

But enough talk for now. Former Vice President Al Gore helped create this video to explain where we are going. Watch it:

Leading up to September 14, we will need our most ardent supporters with us to help promote the event and start the conversation. That means we need you.

We’re building this new project on the foundation of the remarkable work we’ve done together as the Alliance for Climate Protection. We are joining together with The Climate Project — a group of volunteer climate Presenters trained by Al Gore. So when you hear from us moving forward, it will be as The Climate Reality Project.

Thank you for your continued support.

This article is concerning as the humble bee is vital to agriculture.

The rise in the use of chemicals in agriculture, including ‘systemic insecticides’ and those used to coat seeds, is being found to be damaging or toxic to bees. Some can, in combination, be even more potent to pollinators, a phenomenon known as the ‘cocktail effect’

These are among the findings of a new report published today by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), which has brought together and analyzed the latest science on collapsing bee colonies.

The study, entitled Global Bee Colony Disorders and other Threats to Insect Pollinators, underlines that multiple factors are at work linked with the way humans are rapidly changing the conditions and the ground rules that support life on Earth. It shows humans’ large dependency on ecosystem services even for such vital sectors as food production.

It indicates that bees are early warning indicators of wider impacts on animal and plant life and that measures to boost pollinators could not only improve food security but the fate of many other economically and environmentally-important plants and animals.

This story is hilarious AND true!

Australian microbrewery designs a space stout for weightless sipping.

Just picture it; you launch into middle atmosphere, take a look back at a picturesque planet Earth, all the while sipping on a cold one. That’s right, an Aussie microbrewery was asked to design the perfect brewsky to sip on in outer space. As the concept of space tourism becomes more and more real, so too do the leisurely activities associated with a vacation. And drinking beer is one of our favorite vacation pass times.

The beer is a stout designed to have less carbonation than other beers but a strong, tasty flavor for which the brewery commissioned to do the project is known. According to Sify News, “Four Pines Brewing Company, which is a microbrewery, bar and restaurant based in Manly, Sydney, had earned some very loyal customers, including Dr Jason Held, director of Saber Astronautics Australia.”

The beer can be drank both in space and on Earth, but the beer was specially designed for conditions in space. It’s a smoky, full flavor Irish stout with the kind of “sturdiness” that can endure the sometimes varying environs of outer space.

“You’ve got a lot more wiggle room with certain conditions in the stout that I don’t think you have with other types of beers. That said, it’s early days, research-wise,” Held said.

The beer is currently being tested in outer space.

Blood stains - soak garment in cold water and detergent when stain is fresh, DO NOT soak or wash in hot water as this sets the stain.

Clothes storage. When storing clothes away at the end of season add a bar of your favourite soap to the box or vacuum sealed bag. When unpacked, clothes will be sweet smelling.

Coffee stains - for new coffee stains soak in 300ml of water with 15g of borax. Rinse and launder as normal. For old stains, sponge with water, rub glycerine into the stain well and leave for 30min, then rinse and launder as normal

Dissolve your washing detergent in water before you add your clothes, otherwise wash cycle will be half over by the time the detergent starts to do its job.

For grease stains on work wear try sprinkling talcum powder on the stain, repeat until all grease is absorbed, then launder as normal.

Gum on Clothing - use egg whites to remove gum on clothing. Brush egg white on onto the gum with a toothbrush. Let sit for 15 minutes then launder the items as normal.

Help prevent black colours from fading by adding a few drops of vinegar to the wash!

Ink Stains - Rubbing alcohol is the best way to remove ink stains from clothes – dab a little onto the ink it usually disappears.

Itchy woollens - add 2 tablespoons of vinegar in final rinse when washing to make woollens less itchy.

Lipstick stains - rub a little petroleum jelly on the stain and wash as normal.

We have a great range of clotheslines, drying racks and airers to help you look after your washing.

A water purification system developed recently by Gustavo Castro and his colleagues from Brazil is actually based on banana peels, with no other complex filters or other electronics involved.

As they discovered, banana peels can filter toxic metals such as lead or copper cheaply, unlike some other technologies that use other toxic substances in the manufacturing process, which are dangerous to both humans and the environment.

The researchers had tried to use plant wastes such as coconut fibres and peanut shells before, and they did succeed, just like with the minced banana. Actually, the minced bananas proved themselves better at filtering copper and lead from water than what the researchers had tried before. They also discovered that the purifier can be used for 11 times without compromising the filtration quality.

Taking into account that the researchers have been funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation, probably the first recipients of this new organic technology will be South American, but cheap filters could also be used in Africa, where the energy is scarce and people get sick or even die by drinking contaminated water.

Unless your dark clothing is heavily caked with dirt, select a gentle cycle with the least amount of agitation to prevent damage to fibers. Handwashing is always a good option for delicate dark items.

Load the washing machine correctly.
Turn dark colored garments inside out before washing. This will prevent fiber finishes from becoming damaged and showing frayed ends and attracting lint.

Avoid the sun.
Drying in direct sunlight can bleach fabrics. Use an automatic dryer or hang on clothesline in indirect light.

With the threat of rising fuel costs perhaps these scooters are the way of the future.

The Suzuki Burgman Fuel Cell Scooter, created in collaboration with Intelligent Energy, a UK-based fuel cell company, has become the world’s first fuel cell vehicle that is about to be approved for mass commercialization. The company also said that the scooter and its components will be produced and sold in Europe.

“Suzuki Motor is pleased to announce that the Suzuki Burgman Fuel Cell Scooter has become the world’s first fuel cell vehicle to earn Whole Vehicle Type Approval in the EU,” said Osamu Suzuki, chairman and CEO of Suzuki Motor.

The Suzuki Burgman scooter has been unveiled in Europe at a London City Hall event last month. It is equipped with the latest version of Intelligent Energy’s air-cooled hydrogen fuel cell system.

“Our aim is to make eco-friendly fuel cell scooters increasingly common in Europe, in line with the establishment of hydrogen filling stations and other necessary infrastructure,” he added.

A fuel cell-powered scooter looks promising, but how about the hydrogen infrastructure, indispensable for normal operation? Well, in countries like Italy or Germany you’ll be able, also soon, to charge your EV or hydrogen vehicle from roadside points, where the energy will come from solar panels.
